Privacy Policy – Clearfin

Your privacy is our top priority. Clearfin is designed to keep your financial data private and secure. The only network activity in the app is the optional Voice Transaction feature, which sends audio to the Grok API solely to convert your speech into a transaction record — nothing else is shared or stored externally.

Information We Collect

Clearfin does not collect any personal information. All data you enter — expenses, categories, budgets — is stored locally on your device only.

No account or registration required
No names, emails, or phone numbers collected
No financial data is transmitted to our servers
No usage analytics or crash reporting tools

        The only data that ever leaves your device is the audio you explicitly record using the Voice Transaction feature, and it is sent directly to the Grok API for transcription. We do not receive, store, or process this audio on our end.
      

Microphone Permission & Voice Transactions

Clearfin requests access to your device's microphone exclusively to power the Voice Transaction feature. This feature lets you record transactions hands-free by speaking naturally — for example, "Spent 500 rupees on groceries" — and the app will automatically create the transaction entry for you.

How it works: When you tap the microphone button, your voice is recorded on-device and sent securely to the Grok API for speech-to-text processing. The API returns the transcribed text, which Clearfin uses to parse and create your transaction. The audio is not stored by the Grok API beyond processing, and Clearfin itself never stores raw audio files.

        Your choice: The Voice Transaction feature is completely optional. If you deny the microphone permission, all other app features continue to work normally. You can enable or revoke this permission at any time via your device's Settings → Apps → Clearfin → Permissions.
      

Local Data Storage

All app data is stored locally using your device's internal storage. This includes:

Expense entries and categories you create
Budget limits and preferences you set
App settings and theme preferences

        Important: If you uninstall Clearfin, all locally stored data will be permanently deleted. We recommend using the export feature regularly to back up your data.
      

Internet Access & Permissions

Clearfin requests the following permissions on Android:

Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — to record voice input for the Voice Transaction feature only
Storage — to export your data as a file (CSV/PDF)
Internet — used for: (1) sending voice audio to the Grok API for transcription, and (2) opening external links (Play Store, Contact Us) in your browser

        Internet access for voice transcription is only triggered when you explicitly tap the microphone button. No background network requests are made.
      

Third-Party Services

Clearfin integrates the following third-party service:

Grok API (xAI) — used solely for speech-to-text transcription of voice transactions. Audio is sent to this API when you use the voice feature. Please refer to xAI's privacy policy for details on how they handle audio data.

Clearfin does not use:

Firebase or any analytics platforms
Advertising networks or ad SDKs
Crash reporting services (e.g. Crashlytics, Sentry)
Social media integrations

The url_launcher package is used to open URLs in your device browser — no data is exchanged.

Children's Privacy

Clearfin is a general-purpose personal finance app suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from any user. The Voice Transaction feature, when used by minors, should be done with parental awareness, as voice audio is briefly sent to the Grok API for processing.

Data Security

Because all app data is stored locally on your device, its security depends on your device's own security. Voice data sent to the Grok API is transmitted over secure HTTPS. We recommend:

Enabling device screen lock and encryption
Keeping your Android OS up to date
Exporting and backing up your data regularly

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
